Antique Georgian Foiled Amethyst Rivière Necklace

An utterly rare and breathtaking antique Georgian amethyst rivière necklace, remarkable both for its beauty and its survival. The foiled amethysts display the most exquisite muted tones of purple and blush pink, with areas of translucence that resemble aged mirror, a result of the natural changes to the foil over centuries. This gentle, atmospheric glow is one of the most celebrated characteristics of true Georgian jewellery.

Each faceted amethyst is set in a closed back setting and framed with fine cannetille work, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship throughout. The clasp is equally detailed, set with a matching amethyst and surrounded by the same delicate wirework. The stones are graduated in size, with the largest retaining a loop on the reverse where an amethyst pendant would have originally hung. While the pendant is now missing, the necklace itself remains in remarkably good condition for its age, making this an extraordinarily rare survivor. We have never encountered another example quite like it.
