Antique Victorian Snake Pendant With Secret Locket Compartment
A captivating antique snake pendant, originally a Victorian stickpin, has been beautifully converted and paired with a Victorian 18ct gold chain, transforming it into a truly enchanting pendant.
The detailing is exceptional. The snake’s head is set with turquoise cabochons, its eyes are picked out with tiny rubies, and the engraved scales are finely executed, giving wonderful texture and life to the piece. Perhaps the most fascinating detail is the tiny teardrop charm suspended from the snake’s tongue. This is set with a glowing rhodolite garnet cabochon and conceals a secret locket compartment on the reverse, complete with bevelled glass.
The locket currently contains a small piece of original fabric, which may be removed by a jeweller and replaced with a micro keepsake of your choice. Snake jewellery was deeply symbolic in the Victorian era, representing eternal love, rebirth, protection, and wisdom, making this piece not only beautiful but rich in meaning. A truly outstanding example of antique snake jewellery and a rare, magical addition to any serious collection.
