Georgian Hand-Painted Paste Baby Brooch

A Georgian paste baby brooch, rich in early sentimental charm and craftsmanship. Hand-painted with a sweet portrait of a bonneted child set against a soft, romantic landscape. The miniature is beautifully framed by two rows of sparkling paste stones. Old-cut pastes form the inner border, with cushion-cut pastes to the outer row, all set in silver to maximise their light and brilliance.

To the reverse is a secure locket compartment lined with pink silk, intended to hold a treasured memento, and a loop allows the piece to be worn as a pendant as well as a brooch. The condition is very good for its age, with only a small chip to one paste and some soft solder visible on the hinge, both consistent with an early piece of this nature. A particularly lovely example of Georgian sentimentality.
