Edwardian 9ct Yellow Gold Opal and Diamond Crescent Moon Pendant
This outstanding opal crescent moon is exceptionally beautiful and of the finest quality. Chubby domed opal cabochons display a lovely play of colour, mainly pinks and blues with flashes of green, while geometric engraving around each stone highlights them beautifully. Tiny diamonds set in between subtly reflect the light. We have converted this beauty from a brooch, adding an 18ct bale and jump ring so that it can be worn as a pendant, while the pendant itself is crafted in 9ct yellow gold.
Opal crescents are highly sought after and very hard to find, especially in this condition. The crescent moon was a much-loved motif in jewellery of the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, and opals were prized for their shifting colours. Fully hallmarked for Chester 1907, this piece is a wonderful find for collectors of antique celestial jewellery.
