Vintage Opal Charm in 9ct Yellow Gold

We don't think we have ever had a livelier opal than this one, or one with more red flashes. The opal doublet is set into 9ct yellow gold, and the play of colour is fiery and vivid from every angle depending on the lighting.  We have converted it from a stickpin, adding our customary chunky 18ct yellow gold jump ring so it is ready to wear on a charm bracelet or chain. Compact and eye-catching, it brings a real spark to any stack.

An opal doublet is made by covering the delicate opal in a thin layer of protective resin, protecting the fragile stone against damage. Stickpins were a popular accessory in the 19th and early 20th centuries, often set with gemstones as a mark of personal style. Giving a pin like this new life as a charm is a lovely way to enjoy such a vibrant stone today.
